Frequently Asked Questions

  • It varies throughout the year, but generally we run about 2.5 – 3.5 weeks from date of intake to date of invoicing. You can call us for a more exact timeframe when you are planning to submit.

  • We do not currently have a Report Check on our website. If you wish to verify a report please call us at 212-704-0727 or email agl@aglgemlab.com.

  • Our address is 580 5th Ave Suite 706, New York, NY 10036.

  • Please make sure you ship your item in a box and secured well. We can receive it from any courier you choose such as Fedex, UPS, Malca Amit, etc. If in doubt, we always recommend shipping through the U.S. Post Office via Registered Mail.

  • Please download our submission form here and include it in your package. This will give us all the information we need to create an account for you once we receive your item.

  • We offer a 72-hour rush service on printed Prestige Reports for double the charge. However, we only have a limited number of appointments available each week at our discretion. Please contact us in order to schedule a rush appointment.

  • No, we do not provide any of our services while you wait.

  • Yes, you can find our verbal price list here.

  • As long as it does not have a closed back or is not set in a restrictive mounting, we should be able to test it while mounted. Should we need to see it loose for any reason, we will contact you. Please keep in mind that unless you know the exact weight of the stone, we will write “Not Determined” on the report and provide approximate measurements.

  • No, in order for the report to be representative of the entire jewelry article we must test at least 50% of the stones. If you only want one stone tested then you must unmount it and we can produce a report for the loose stone.

  • No, we do not provide weight estimations for mounted items. If you do not know the exact weight, then we will write “Not Determined” on the report.

  • No, we do not test rough specimens. We only test polished gemstones.

  • We only test polished colored gemstones. We do not test diamonds or pearls (except conch pearl). We also do not test for species on coral.

  • No, we do not offer monetary appraisals. We provide strictly analytical reports. Also, in order to remain an independent party, we do not provide you with a referral to an appraisal service.

  • All of our reports provide identification & enhancement. Depending on the material, you also have the option to adding origin. Please click here for more information on origin services.

  • Pricing is based on the service requested and whether the stone is loose or mounted. Pricing for certain services may be based on the size of the stone. Please refer to our price list here.
    For jewelry articles, pricing is based on the size and quantity of stones as well as the intricacy of the mounting. Please email us (agl@aglgemlab.com) a picture of the front and back of your item for a quote.

  • No, our only location is in New York City.

  • No, we do not travel to your location for testing. We provide on-site testing at several trade shows throughout the year including Tucson, Las Vegas, and Hong Kong. We also test on-site in Bangkok several times a year. We post information for each trade show in the weeks leading up on our website, underTrade Show Testing.” You can also sign up for our mailing list here.

  • In order to update a report you must resubmit the stone and return the original report. . If your report is from the past 2 years, we will update your report for a reduced fee
    ($135 for loose stones, $150 for mounted stones). If the original report is older than two years, we can still update the report but it will be charged at full-price.
